CALIFORNIA SYMPHONY GOES ONLINE WITH FRESH LOOK—THE SYMPHONY EXPOSED

As they continue to innovate with virtual adult education classes to make classical music more accessible

Course highlights:

  • Fresh Look—The Symphony Exposed is an introductory 4-part adult education course that takes an unstuffy look at classical music, from the birth of orchestras right up to present day, and reinforces the organization’s mission to make the symphony welcoming to all.
  • Now in its third year, the 2020 classes take a more thematic approach to the material to tackle classical music’s relationship to issues like race, gender, and representation.
  • Classes will be presented live online weekly and will be available on-demand up to one week after each session.
  • A Spanish language option is also available to better serve California Symphony’s community.
  • The series is led by award-winning instructor Scott Foglesong, Chair of Musicianship and Music Theory at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, California Symphony program notes annotator, and contributing writer and lecturer with the San Francisco Symphony.
