In compliance with the federal Clean Water Act and New York State Environmental Conservation Law, the Town of Huntington has developed and implemented a local management plan to help reduce pollutant loading in coastal waters and improve the water quality in our harbors and bays.

The Stormwater Management Program (SWMP) Plan is a blueprint for the Town, local businesses and residents to use to help prevent contamination of coastal waters and groundwater from pollutants and toxins found in everyday materials, including trash, chemicals, pet waste, grease, oil, cleaners, paints and sediments.  Stormwater carries pollutants from these sources through Huntington’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) where they pose a threat to surface water and drinking water quality.
