SABC remembers Menzi Ngubane and Noxolo Maqashalala: ‘Entertainment industry has lost two giants’

In a statement issued to the media on Sunday, the SABC expressed their shock and sadness at the passing of actors Menzi Ngubane and Noxolo Maqashalala.

News of both Menzi and Noxolo’s deaths made headlines on Saturday.

“Mr. Ngubane was a legend in the arts industry, whose many memorable performances endeared him to audiences, not only for the characters he portrayed, but the person he was in reality. He appeared in numerous SABC productions such as Ubambo Lwami, where he portrayed the character Mazwi. He also starred in Kwakhala Nyonini, 37 Honey Street, Yizo Yizo, Gaz’lam, Family Secrets and famously as ‘Sibusiso Dlomo’ on SABC1’s Generations,” the statement reads. 

About Noxolo, it says: “Ms. Maqashalala, a veteran in her own right, will be remembered for her vibrant energy and performances, which gained her many fans. She starred in a leading role on Tsha Tsha as Viwe a youth educational drama on SABC 1. She also appeared on Intersexions, Gauteng Maboneng and recently Diamond City.”

It goes on to say: “The entertainment industry has lost two giants whose gap will be felt by the industry and fans alike. They both leave a formidable legacy that upcoming actors and actresses can access for years to come. The public broadcaster offers its sincere condolences to the Ngubane and Maqashalala families on their loss.”

Menzi Ngubane died at home of a stroke, while reports state that Noxolo was found dead in her home in Honeydew on Friday.
